If you are going to Do-It-Yourself, you might as well start with a good checklist. Actually, the first thing you will do is search for a SEO Checklist. I’ve tried to add some value here by filtering the pedestrian and emphasizing the stalwarts and exceptional – A Review of SEO Checklists. A list of SEO Checklists that are endorsed by an SEO should save you significant time. (Don’t forget to Google Plus those you find worth-while ;)
Vaughns Google search engine SERP Ranking Factors SEO Checklist has been around for a long time. This on-site SEO checklist is updated about once a year. A very good on-site checklist. Reinforced by the Google Pluses and top position in SERPs.
Webconfs 15-Minute SEO Checklist is a nicely laid-out facsimile of Vaughns – its easier to read with its + and – ranking of potential effect. It has much of the same content, also concentrating on-site SEO. Not sure how often this is updated. The copyright says 2006, but its still at the top of the SERPs, so I’d say its worth a look.
Web SEO Analytics – 60 Essential Checks Before Launch is a go-live checklist; emphasis on SEO. A good reference even for the experienced website developer/owner.
SEO Checklist By André le Roux is a short fat-free 12 point SEO checklist that may have some dated information, but I like it for the bits of exceptional insight making this a good read. Definitely worthwhile.
