Google has made a monumental declaration by acknowledging that Google +1 will effect the search rank of websites that get +1′d. That is unusual because Google tries not to does not publish what attributes their algorithm favors. But this is a battle to kill-off Facebook’s attempts to takeover the reviews space, so an incentive to use +1 has been heard and accepted. It should come as no surprise that over at Search Engine Land they report rapid adoption of Google Plus One.
Google+1 is the same as a Facebook Like. The Google +1 button enables anyone (with a Google account) to vote for a web page. So it makes sense to get as many votes for your web page as possible. The sooner you implement the +1 button on your website the better.
Its a side issue but if you want to read more about the battle between Facebook and Google. It has been my experience that Facebook has not really been worth it (the time vs customer acquisition), however, getting traffic from Google is well worth the effort.
Although there has been some promotion of the concept that one could go to friends on Facebook for recommendations, I never have because it would take too long. Yelp is long in the tooth. I don’t read Yelps anymore because they have developed a weird culture – those people need a life. But this…Google +1 may be the ultimate in crowd-sourcing recommendations (social media) because its so accessible at the moment of intent.
(Remember that you will have to be logged into a Google account to +1 a page)
