The Weak Link in Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop

I’ve tried to love Unity. I keep trying every time I install Ubuntu since Unity was introduced as the GUI of choice. I’ve read a lot about UI design over the years, (Doug Engelbart to John Sculley’s Personal Digital Assistant) so I don’t think I’m a curmudeon about it. But I just can’t be productive on a daily basis with Unity as it functions today. Searching for alternatives, clearly I know I’m not alone. Best of luck Mark, getting Unity working, but in the meantime I have to keep going back to a productive environment.

How to get Gnome3 for Ubuntu 12.04
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-shell

Reboot and you are good to go. But there is more about Gnome3 on Ubuntu 12.04 and Gnome Extensions
